Alnaazihin (The Displaced) told the story of Zilan, a Kurdish-Syrian artist who flees Syria with her beloved Najib after the outbreak of war. Zilan and Najib take with them what is most precious to each other. Zilan carries Najib's poems, and he wraps one of Zilan's paintings. Their journey takes them through Turkey, Libya, Greece, and finally they reach the Netherlands.


“In this captivating production that renders the audience speechless, I brought to life a compelling and poignant true story through intricate video decorations. I employed abstract metaphors like graffiti cascading like ash from a wall, as well as depictions of landscapes and roads traversing a narrative filled with rich tales.”

	In "I AM, I AM NOT", Narcissus encounters an AI (Bing Search) that promises to help him with his love problems. Bing Search generates an exact copy of Narcissus, whom he immediately falls deeply in love with. However, every attempt to love himself disrupts his generated reflection. Frustrated by his futile attempts, Narcissus questions his own existence. These existential inquiries are then taken over by Bing Search, plunging the AI into a self-destructive loop. Bing Search and Narcissus descend into manic episodes and slowly deteriorate until nothing remains but a narcissus flower.

In this production, Stijn engineered a wall of mirrors that could open and close in response to a person's movements, seamlessly following or distorting their reflection. This feature added an interactive element that engaged viewers in a captivating spectacle.

The artwork "In the Eyes of a Group" consists of three sets of moving googly eyes that constantly gaze at each other, displaying various emotions. It performs a small theatrical piece where the eyes observe and are observed within their group. By continuously watching one another, a sense of connection and unity is formed, but it can also exert pressure to conform to the norms and expectations of the group.

The artwork emphasizes the importance of self-awareness and introspection in group interactions, inviting the viewer to critically reflect on their own role within this dynamic. Through the interactive googly eyes, the viewer is encouraged to actively engage in this process of self-examination and consciousness.

When the artwork detects a loud sound, the eyes respond together and turn towards the direction of the sound. This highlights the instinctive connection we have as social animals and the way we unconsciously react to our environment and each other. The googly eyes serve as a playful symbol of our constant observations of others, which influence us to avoid deviating from the norms.

Theater in VR


In this artistic research project (together with Cross-Tic) we explore the dynamic convergence of theater and virtual reality (VR). Through a series of insightful interviews conducted in VRChat, we investigate how theater elements are translated and reimagined in virtual environments. Uncover the fascinating ways in which VR platforms like VRChat facilitate the breaking of conventions, the emergence of new norms, and the unique interactions within this immersive space.

In our presentation we guided the audience towards the
semiotics and internet culture to gain a deeper understanding of the integration of VR within theater. Examine the expressive potential of VR as a medium and its impact on reshaping theatrical experiences. Discover how virtual reality offers exciting opportunities for innovative storytelling, immersive performances, and the seamless blending of digital elements into traditional theatrical forms.


VR-Chat a platform for performing
In the world of VR, despite the debates about its vitality, there is an wundeniable power in the connections forged between individuals within virtual spaces. These connections give rise to a sense of liveness, where participants engage in a form of performance that transcends physical limitations. When people come together in VR, whether it's through shared experiences, collaborative projects, or spontaneous interactions, a unique kind of "virtual biechthok" (confessional booth) is created. Within this space, individuals meet, interact, and express themselves, forming a collective tapestry of stories, emotions, and shared moments. It is through these encounters that liveness emerges, where the boundaries between performer and audience blur, and the virtual realm becomes a stage for authentic human expression.

	In this performance/play, -which is also my first written and directed short play- part of the exposition of the museum about futurism. I exposed one of the nasty visions of the futurists that the museum did not include in their exposition, burning down the museums, and destroying all it’s art. Performed in the museum, against the museum!

I researched the Russian futurist and theatermaker&#38;nbsp;Vsevolod Meyerhold and implemented his theatre style Biomechanica, with dance and performative movements.
And by implementing a manifest against museums written by Creative Writing student Mette Hoekstra created a poetic aspect that bring unimaginary visions to the public in a light and theatric way.
	I created an interactive lightning setup that would lit up fake art pieces that were part of the decor. The lights could be controlled by lifting your arms and legs up, each individual limb could control one certain light.
We also created live music in the performance/play by looping our own voices through old manipulated telephones.

By using a special microphone, I captured the radiosignals going through the Aamsveen (a big field with bog), and translated that to the visual aspect.This way the viewer can look through a different lens, and see this beautiful landscape in a way they have never seen before.

In this video I have captured the liveness of Aamsveen, the visuals controlled by the radio waves present there. You could say that the creator is actually Aamsveen itself.

	Stadsvlucht is a coming of age production under the name Playground by Sonnevanck. The play consisted of multiple scenes through out Enschede, where viewers who were divided in groups had to walk a route passing by all of the scenes, in the end everyone came together on one spot for the last scene.
My Projection on the building (Villa de Bank) played a role in that last scene. I got the task to create an organic stream of colors with a video that portrayed dreams of travelling around the world.

	Through the collaboration between The Nederlandse Reisopera and Theatermakerij, (together De Maakers), I got the opportunity to experiment with my electronic art and video making with live theater.&#38;nbsp;
	

	I managed to find a balance between the role of the screens and the actors. Intergrating a bright visual screen between the actors without overpowering them, was harder than I thought.
The screens acts as a background for the many enviroments that charactors go through. In the teaser you also see that some characters like the snake and Mozart, are completely virtual and come to life on the three screens. The whole queing system was made in Touchdesigner where I could customize everything to my own liking.
